According to the Eloy Police Department, the driver had gone around barricades that were blocking the flooded intersection. The road closure remains in effect as flooding continues to impact the area.

“This event clearly shows the benefits of regional partners working seamlessly to save lives,” Eloy Fire District stated, expressing gratitude to Casa Grande Fire Department for their rapid response.

The incident serves as a stark reminder to motorists: Never drive around barricades during flooding conditions. Both victims are reported safe following the rescue.

Battaglia Road from Sunshine to Highway 87 remains closed due to ongoing flooding.

Eloy Fire units performed two additional rescues of trapped motorists yesterday evening on Milligan Road east of Highway 87, where heavy flooding made roadways impassable.

In addition, the City of Maricopa Fire/Medical Department crews responded to Murphy and Steen Roads where a vehicle became stuck in fast-moving floodwaters. Firefighters performed a water rescue, bringing two occupants to safety.

These incidents are among several water rescues performed across Pinal County in recent days, as officials continue urging residents to avoid flooded roads.
