Casa Grande Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest

A Casa Grande teen was arrested on DUI and drug charges following a traffic stop on Interstate 8. The Arizona Department of Public Safety made the arrest on November 14, 2025, at approximately 9 PM. Highway Patrol troopers stopped the vehicle near Montgomery Road after noticing the rear lights were off and the temporary license plate was flapping in the wind.

Driver Shows Signs of Impairment

Troopers spoke with the driver, a 17-year-old high school student. They observed signs of impairment during the interaction.

The teen admitted to smoking marijuana “a couple hours prior.” He agreed to participate in field sobriety tests. He did not pass the tests.

Officers placed him under arrest for DUI. Blood test results are pending.

Search Reveals Drug Evidence

During a probable cause search, officers seized the following items:

  • Approximately 14 marijuana pre-rolled blunts
  • 6 THC vapes
  • 12 nicotine vapes
  • One cell phone
  • $271 in U.S. currency

Drugs Found With Schoolwork

Of the items seized, four THC vapes were located inside the teen’s backpack. The backpack also contained one nicotine vape and two pre-rolled marijuana blunts. All of his schoolwork was stored in the same backpack.

Pending Charges Under Arizona Law

The driver is pending three felony charges for marijuana possession and sales. He also faces two misdemeanor DUI charges under Arizona law.

Arizona Revised Statute 13-3405 governs marijuana possession and sales offenses. Felony classifications under this statute depend on the weight and circumstances of the case.

Under Arizona law, DUI offenses are governed by ARS 28-1381, which classifies such violations as class 1 misdemeanors.

If convicted of DUI, penalties can include jail time, fines, additional assessments, and mandatory traffic survival school

If convicted under ARS 13-3405, Arizona law requires a mandatory minimum fine of at least $750 or three times the drug’s value, whichever is greater.

Release and Investigation

Officers released the teen to his parents following the arrest. The case remains under investigation pending blood test results.
