The City of Apache Junction is proud to announce that the baseball fields at the Apache Junction Parks & Recreation Little League Complex have been selected as one of only five locations in Arizona to receive the 2024 Fields of Excellence Award from Pioneer Athletics.

The national Fields of Excellence Program honors organizations that go above and beyond in their commitment to maintaining high-quality outdoor athletic fields. In 2024, just 79 fields across the country received this recognition.

“I want to acknowledge our incredible parks team for their dedication and outstanding efforts to get our Little League baseball fields in pristine shape,” said Liz Langenbach, director of the Apache Junction Parks & Recreation Department. “Caring for our baseball fields not only enhances the appearance but plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety of our community’s young athletes.”

To achieve this recognition, the parks team spent months improving the condition of the fields—demonstrating that top-tier results are possible even without high-end equipment or large budgets. The team developed a reliable method tailored to their resources, achieving excellence through innovation and teamwork.

The Little League Complex, located at 440 S. Ironwood Dr., was originally built in 1990 and has recently seen several upgrades. Recent improvements include repairs to outfield and dugout fencing, restroom upgrades, and field renovations. Future plans include laser-leveling the infields and installing shade structures to further enhance the space.
