Apache Junction Now Accepting Ballot Arguments for Proposition 493

The City of Apache Junction is now accepting the submission of arguments for or against Proposition 493, which will appear on the November 4, 2025, Special Election ballot in both Maricopa and Pinal counties.

At its meeting on March 4, 2025, the Apache Junction City Council unanimously adopted Resolution No. 25-03, calling for a special election to allow qualified voters to decide whether to increase the mayor’s term of office from two years to four years, beginning with the term starting on January 5, 2027.

How to Submit an Argument

Individuals, organizations, and political committees interested in submitting arguments must do so by 6 p.m. (MST) on July 22, 2025. Submissions must be emailed to [email protected]. Arguments must:

  • Be 300 words or fewer
  • Be accompanied by a $60.00 filing fee, which constitutes sponsorship of the argument
  • Include a sworn statement from each sponsor

For organizational arguments, sworn statements from two executive officers are required. For political committee arguments, the chairman or treasurer must submit the sworn statement.

To arrange payment of the $60.00 fee, please contact the City Clerk’s Office at (480) 982-8002.

Additional Requirements

The individual(s) signing the argument must include their name, residence or mailing address, and phone number. This information will not appear in the publicity pamphlet.

All households with an Apache Junction registered voter will receive an informational pamphlet that includes all submitted arguments for and against the proposition.
