The City of Apache Junction has received reports and photos of water being discharged from the D.R. Horton construction site near Radiance Avenue and Reverence Road.

City engineering staff have confirmed that this is a controlled and permitted release of stormwater from a new retention and detention lake still under construction. During last week’s storm, the basin temporarily filled before construction was complete. The developer is now safely pumping down the lake to prepare for final work and inspections.

This temporary discharge is within permitted limits and is releasing water along the same natural drainage path that existed prior to development. Once complete, the lake will store and slowly release runoff after heavy rain, reducing downstream flooding.

The cloudy or muddy appearance of the water is normal after major storms, especially while soil stabilization work continues.

City staff are in contact with D.R. Horton’s engineers to ensure all ADEQ stormwater permit and drainage requirements are met.

The City appreciates the community’s vigilance and concern for our shared drainage systems

Residents who observe potential illicit discharges or have questions can contact the Development Services Department – Engineering Division at (480) 474-5084 or [email protected]
