PHOENIX, Ariz. – WIFA has received six offers outlining water importation proposals as a part of its Long-Term Water Augmentation Fund (LTWAF) Solicitation process.

The solicitation process began with 17 teams submitting their qualifications for developing new, renewable water supplies for Arizona. Following an extensive review in accordance with the Solicitation guidelines, three of these teams were deemed qualified to submit offers for further consideration. From these teams, WIFA has received six proposals for water importation projects:

“Today’s announcement represents significant progress in WIFA’s mission to advance water augmentation projects that help secure Arizona’s water future,” said LTWAF Committee Chairman Ted Cooke. “The receipt of these offers proves that there is capacity and capability to develop new, renewable water supplies for Arizona and that WIFA’s process for ensuring that we approach any investment in generational water infrastructure with a sound, methodical approach is working.”

If approved by the Board, the qualified teams will contract with WIFA to conduct analyses and other due diligence, further developing their contemplated projects. This will allow WIFA to compare multiple potential augmentation options. WIFA will provide financial assistance for private sector project teams to develop the information WIFA will need to objectively evaluate the viability of all projects, including engineering, financial capability, permitting requirements and other critical factors. This analysis will then inform the Board of Director’s decision to enter into a long-term agreement associated with implementation of a water augmentation project(s).
