San Tan Valley Fire Crews quickly extinguished a garage fire in Johnson Ranch, suspected to have originated from a golf cart. The fire was successfully contained to the garage, preventing it from spreading into the home.

Rural Metro Fire San Tan Valley notes that garages are among the most common locations for house fires to start, with crews reporting an increase in fires related to lithium batteries found in e-bikes and other devices.

The department provided the following safety recommendations:

  • Charge lithium batteries outdoors
  • Be aware of temperature – high temperatures are dangerous for lithium batteries
  • Never use aftermarket chargers, only manufacturer chargers
  • Never use extension cords or plug strips
  • Never charge a damaged battery
  • Always have working smoke alarms
